Russia beats OHL in Game 4 of Super Series @NHLdotcom

Nikolai Skladnichenko beat Jake Paterson in the eighth round of the shootout, lifting Russia to a 3-2 win against the Ontario Hockey League on Monday in the fourth game of the Super Series in Sudbury, Ontario.

Russia goalie Ivan Nalimov made 50 saves through regulation and overtime, then denied seven of eight contestants in the shootout. Connor Brown was the only OHL player to beat Nalimov in the breakaway competition, in the fourth round.

Russia raced out to a 2-0 lead with goals 2:14 apart early in the first period. Ildar Shiksatdarov opened the scoring when he beat Paterson (21 saves) at 4:39. It was Shiksatdarov's second goal of the series.

Sergei Kuptsov doubled Russia's lead at 6:53 off a feed from Shiksatdarov. Kuptsov has 14 points in 28 games for the Ottawa 67's this season.

The OHL responded with goals 1:54 apart early in the second period.

Bo Horvat, a Vancouver Canucks prospect, cut the deficit in half when he beat Nalimov 1:01 into the second. Horvat, 18, was the ninth player selected at the 2013 NHL Draft.

Carter Verhaeghe tied it for the OHL at 2:55 off a pass from Nicholas Baptiste. Verhaeghe was a third-round pick (No. 82) by the Toronto Maple Leafs earlier this year.

The OHL outshot Russia 14-10 in the third period, but neither team scored.

The fifth game of the Super Series will be played Wednesday in Red Deer, Alberta.
