SUNRISE, Fla. -- Florida Panthers goalie Roberto Luongo said he had to be better in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference First Round series against the New York Islanders, and he most definitely was.

Luongo made 41 saves, and Reilly Smith and Nick Bjugstad each had a goal and an assist when the Panthers defeated the Islanders 3-1 at BB&T Center on Friday.

SUNRISE, Fla. -- The Florida Panthers defeated the New York Islanders 3-1 in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference First Round at BB&T Center on Friday. The best-of-7 series is tied 1-1.

Florida killed two New York power plays in the first period without allowing any quality chances. The Panthers penalty kill was ranked 24th in the NHL during the regular season.

SUNRISE, Fla. -- Florida Panthers rookie defenseman Michael Matheson could make his Stanley Cup Playoffs debut Friday in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference First Round series against the New York Islanders.

Panthers coach Gerard Gallant said he would make lineup changes for Game 2, but decline to provide specifics. But veteran defenseman Jakub Kindl was the only Panthers skater who appeared in Game 1 to participate in an optional morning skate Friday. Kindl's 12:30 of ice time Thursday was the lowest for any Panthers defenseman.
