Rookie Niederreiter scores, adds two assists as Winter Hawks beat T-birds @NHLdotcom

KENT, Wash. - Rookie winger Nino Niederreiter scored his first Western Hockey League goal and added two assists to help lift the Portland Winter Hawks to a 5-0 victory over the Seattle Thunderbirds on Saturday.

Troy Rutkowski had a pair of goals and an assist for Portland, while Chris Francis and Spencer Bennett also scored for the Winter Hawks.

Goaltender Ian Curtis stopped 22 shots to pick up the shutout win for Portland (1-0-0).

Jacob DeSerres made 29 saves for Seattle (1-1-0).
