KENNEWICK, Wash. - Judd Blackwater knocked the puck away from Colton Yellow Horn and fed Ondrej Roman for the game winner just 49 seconds into double-overtime, leading the Spokane Chiefs to a 1-0 victory over the Tri-City Americans in Game 1 of the Western Conference finals Friday night.
Americans goalie Chet Pickard, had gone 166 minutes and 45 seconds without allowing a goal until Roman found daylight at the right post. Pickard finished with 36 saves.
Spokane's Dustin Tokarski stopped all 24 of the Americans' shots for his second shutout of the playoffs.
Game 2 of the best-of-seven series will be Sunday at Toyota Center, while Games 3 and 4 will be Monday and Tuesday at Spokane Arena.
