Rodgers tips in winning goal to give Blazers 4-2 win over Winter Hawks

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Kamloops Blazers scored two third-period goals to pull away from a second-period tie and defeat the Portland Winter Hawks 4-2 Friday in the WHL.

Alex Rodgers tipped in a centring pass from Ivan Rohac 1:32 into the final period to provide the winning marker for Kamloops and Tyler Shattock added an empty-net insurance marker in the final minute for Kamloops.

Brady Calla, while shorthanded, and Victor Bartley had the other goals for Kamloops.

Portland got on the scoreboard first when Matt Schmermund took a feed from Riley Boychuk behind the Kamloops defence and beat goaltender James Priestner.

After Calla tied the game three minutes later, the two teams went to the second period tied at 1-1. Portland regained the lead when Jacob Dietrich scored his first goal as a Winter Hawk.

Bartley would tie it in the final minute of the second period, set up by Juuso Puustinen, who had two assists on the night, to send the teams to the second intermission tied at 2-2.

Kurtis Mucha stopped 28 of 31 shots on the night for Portland while Priestner stopped 32 of 34 Portland shots for his third victory against Portland this season.

Portland finished the night 0-for-5 on the power play, while Kamloops was 0-for-6.
