Roberto Luongo won the solar eclipse.

While social media was ablaze with images and videos of the rare astronomical event where the moon crossed between the sun and earth, the Florida Panthers goalie who never misses a chance to make a joke unleashed a perfect burn on his own goaltending play.

While Luongo was winning the day, and others were bracing for the eclipse, Ottawa Senators defenseman Chris Wideman managed to capture an incredible image of the moon crossing the sun's orbit.

Boston Bruins forward Matt Beleskey was so excited to see the eclipse that he bartered with fans on social media to acquire some glasses. Bruins fan Peter Conley lent him a pair and ended up with a signed hat.

In the run-up to the event, team accounts practiced preparedness. The Dallas Stars also changed their avatar to the moon crossing the path of their logo a clever play on the sun's status as a star.
Other NHL mascots got the best jokes out of their system.

Don't fret if you missed the big event Monday. The next solar eclipse in America will be here in April 2024.
