The Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday agreed to terms with defenseman Rasmus Rissanen on a one-year, two-way contract the team said will pay him $575,000 at the NHL level or $90,000 at the American Hockey League level in 2014-15.
Rissanen, 23, had three goals, a career-high 10 points and 91 penalty minutes in 62 games with the Charlotte Checkers in 2013-14, his third professional season. He has six goals, 25 points and 232 penalty minutes in 188 AHL games, all with Charlotte, since turning pro in 2011.
Rissanen was a sixth-round selection (No. 178) by Carolina in the 2009 NHL Draft.
