Report: MacArthur becomes unrestricted free agent

Clarke MacArthur, who scored 16 goals last season playing for the Buffalo Sabres and Atlanta Thrashers, became an unrestricted free agent Wednesday when the Thrashers walked away from a $2.4 million salary awarded to the forward by an arbitrator, according to a TSN report.

MacArthur, acquired from the Sabres at the trade deadline for a pair of picks in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, had 3 goals and 9 points in 21 games with Atlanta after registering 13 goals and 26 points in 60 games for Buffalo.

The 25-year-old MacArthur, originally drafted in the third round by the Sabres in 2003, had a career-high 17 goals during the 2008-09 season, his first full NHL campaign. In 208 career games over parts of four seasons, he has totaled 44 goals and 88 points.
