Alex Kovalev's time with the Florida Panthers may be short-lived.
According to a report by Miami Herald beat writer George Richards, 40-year-old Kovalev did not skate with the team Friday and is not traveling with them for their game Saturday night against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Richards reports though Kovalev did practice Thursday, he didn't have a locker stall inside the arena Thursday night for the Panthers' game against the Buffalo Sabres.
Kovalev got off to a fast start with the Panthers, scoring a goal and posting a three-point game opening night against the Hurricanes. In the 13 games he's played since, he's had one goal and one assist, and had become a frequent scratch of late.
The Panthers could get forwards Kris Versteeg and Scottie Upshall back Saturday. Both made the trip to Carolina; each has been limited to seven games this season due to injuries.
