The Boston Bruins
and forward Shawn Thornton
reportedly have agreed to a two-year contract extension. TSN says the deal is worth $1.1 million a year.
The 34-year-old, native, who was scheduled to become a free agent on July 1, has four goals and eight assists and leads the Bruins with 145 penalty minutes. He has led the team in that category in each of the last two seasons.
Thornton joined the Bruins in 2007-08 after playing one season for the Anaheim Ducks
. Prior to that, he played parts of three seasons with Chicago.
Thornton is a two-time Stanley Cup champion, winning with the Ducks in 2006-07 and the Bruins last spring.
