The Detroit Red Wings today recalled center Stephen Weiss from his conditioning loan with the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins.
Weiss, 31, was limited to 26 games for the Red Wings in 2013-14 and did not play after Dec. 10 following hernia surgery. The Toronto, Ontario, native recorded four points and 12 penalty minutes in his first season with Detroit. A veteran of 681 NHL games since 2001-02, Weiss has 398 career points with Detroit and Florida. Originally drafted by the Panthers in the first round (fourth overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Weiss is the Panthers' all-time leader in games played (654) and assists (249). He skated in one game for Grand Rapids, recording a plus-one rating with one shot on goal.
