DETROIT (AP) -Detroit Red Wings forward Tomas Kopecky will have reconstructive knee surgery in two weeks to repair a torn ligament and will miss the playoffs.
The injury is expected to keep Kopecky out four to six months, team spokesman John Hahn said Friday.
Kopecky limped off the ice in the second period of Thursday night's 3-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. His legs were taken out from under him in a collision with Columbus' Manny Malhotra.
Kopecky also missed last season's playoffs with a broken collarbone.
In 77 games this season, he had five goals and seven assists for 12 points. He also had 43 penalty minutes.
