Red Wings' Datsyuk practices in non-contact jersey

Detroit Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk joined practice Thursday wearing a gray non-contract jersey.

Datsyuk seemed to be passing and shooting the puck well, MLive.com reported.

Datsyuk suffered a separated shoulder in the Red Wings' preseason opener, Sept. 22 against the Pittsburgh Penguins. He's expected to miss another 2-3 weeks recovering.

The Red Wings open the season Oct. 9 against the Boston Bruins. If Datsyuk is out another three weeks, he would miss the Red Wings' first six games, returning Oct. 23.

Forward Tomas Tatar didn't skate Thursday as a precaution after he was shaken up late in a 2-0 preseason loss to the Penguins on Wednesday. Tatar passed a concussion test after the game, according to MLive.com.

"The protocol with concussions is he's not available to us. I talked to [Tatar] this morning and he's feeling fine," coach Mike Babcock said.
