Detroit Red Wings center Darren Helm will miss 2-4 weeks because of a grade 1 slight shoulder separation that he sustained during a collision with prospect Jerome Verrier during practice Friday.
Helm, who also sustained a concussion, will likely miss the entire preseason. Detroit opens its regular season on Oct. 9 against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Joe Louis Arena. Helm, 28, had 15 goals and 18 assists in 75 games last season.
The Red Wings were already without center Pavel Datsyuk, who is out until late October or early November after having ankle surgery.
