Red Deer squanders lead, comes back to earn 4-3 shootout win over Edmonton

RED DEER, Alta. - The Red Deer Rebels blew a two-goal lead but rebounded to post a 4-3 shootout win over the expansion Edmonton Oil Kings in WHL action Tuesday.

Goals by Joel Kot, Tomas Polak and Brennen Wray staked the Rebels to a 3-1 advantage after 40 minutes, but Edmonton forward Brent Raedeke scored a power-play goal at 13:53 of the third period and teammate Cameron Cepek connected with 70 seconds remaining to force a scoreless overtime period.

Brett Breitkreuz also scored for Edmonton (2-0-0-1).

Landon Ferraro and Dallas Jackson scored shootout goals for Red Deer (1-2-0-0), while Rebels netminder Morgan Clark stopped attempts by Craig McCallum and Raedeke.

Clark made 29 saves in regulation time. Dalyn Flette stopped 31 shots for the Oil Kings.
