Realignment major issue at NHL meetings @NHL

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (AP) - NHL officials arrived at their board of governors meeting hoping to hash out a realignment plan that could significantly alter the league.

The two-day meeting at a seaside resort in Pebble Beach begins Monday with the main topic on the agenda being realignment. The league needs to make changes to accommodate Atlanta's move to Winnipeg this past summer.

The Jets could just flip with either Detroit, Columbus or Nashville in a simple move that would solve the problem of having Winnipeg in a division with Washington, Carolina, Florida and Tampa Bay. The league also could adopt a more radical plan of switching to four divisions from the current six. There is also talk of moving to a more balanced schedule.

Any changes require a two-thirds majority approval.
