PORTLAND, Ore. - Taylor Leier scored twice as the Portland Winterhawks beat the Seattle Thunderbirds 7-1 in the Western Hockey League on Saturday.
Ty Rattie had a goal and three assists for Portland (19-9-2) while Joseph Morrow, Brad Ross, Tyler Wotherspoon and Joey Baker added singles.
Burke Gallimore scored his team-leading 14th goal for the Thunderbirds (11-14-1) in the third to avoid a shutout.
Mac Carruth made 26 saves in net to earn the win for the Winterhawks.
Portland scored four times on 29 first-period shots against Seattle goaltender Calvin Pickard, who stopped 39 of 45 shots through two periods before being replaced by Daniel Cotton. the Winterhawks recorded a season-best 60 shots overall.
Portland went 4-for-8 on the power play, while Seattle was 0-for-3.
