Rattie scores in OT Winterhawks eliminate Chiefs from WHL playoffs

SPOKANE, Wash. - Ty Rattie scored 17:29 into overtime and the Portland Winterhawks advanced to the second round of the Western Hockey League playoffs with a 5-4 win over the Spokane Chiefs on Wednesday.

Portland won the Western Conference best-of-seven quarter-final 4-3 in a series where the visiting team won every game.

The Winterhawks will face the Vancouver Giants in the second round.

Nino Niederreiter, Ryan Johansen, Riley Boychuk and Luke Walker also scored for the Winterhawks, who came back from deficits of 3-0 and 4-2.

Mitch Wahl had two goals and an assist for Spokane, while Tyler Johnson and Kyle Beach also scored.

Mac Carruth made 26 saves for Portland, while James Reid stopped 44 shots for Spokane.
