Ranford scores twice as Kamloops Blazers beat Seattle Thunderbirds 3-2 @NHLdotcom

KENT, Wash. - Brendan Ranford scored on the power play and short handed to pace the Kamloops Blazers to a 3-2 victory over the Seattle Thunderbirds Saturday night in Western Hockey League action.

Jordan DePape also scored for Kamloops (22-20-5). Ranford's 16th and 17th goals of the season both came in the second despite the Blazers being out-shot 22-10 in the period. Kamloops goaltender Jon Groenheyde had 45 saves.

Colin Jacobs and Prab Rai replied for Seattle (14-25-7).

The win was the fifth in a row for Kamloops, and the third loss in a row for Seattle.

Kamloops scored first with a unassisted short-handed goal by Ranford at 2:26 of the second period.

The T-birds tied it at 3:54 of the period with an even-strength goal by Colin Jacobs after a perfect setup by Tyler Alos from behind the net.

Ranford scored again on the power play at 18:27 of the second period. DePape scored his 10th of the season to make it 3-1 at 7:58 of the third period before Rai scored at 19:01 with the Seattle goaltender on the bench.
