Randell scores hat trick as Halifax routs Foreurs 6-1 for first win of season @NHLdotcom

It took the Halifax Mooseheads eight games, but Travis Randell made sure their first win of the season was a big one.

Randell scored a hat trick and added an assist as Halifax demolished the Val-d'Or Foreurs 6-1 on Saturday night in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

Halifax (1-7-0-0) was outscored 35-17 in its first seven games. Last season, the Mooseheads needed three games to record their first win.

Randell, Carl Gelinas and Gerrad Grant combined to give Halifax a 3-0 lead in the first period, with the first two goals coming on the power play.

The Moosheads' defence was solid after that, allowing only nine shots over the final two periods.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL, it was: Drummondville 3, Chicoutimi 2 (SO); Rouyn-Noranda 7, P.E.I. 2; Shawinigan 5, Saint John 4 (OT); and Acadie-Bathurst 3, Moncton 1.

At Val-d'Or, Que., Linden Bahm scored in the third period for Halifax, while Keven Guerette-Charland had the lone reply for the Foreurs (3-7-1-0), who have lost three straight.

Mathieu Corbeil-Theriault made 17 saves for the Mooseheads, while Val-d'Or netminder Dean Coulton was pulled after allowing three goals on 11 shots in the first period. Jacob Gervais-Chouinard stopped 12 of 15 shots in replacement.


Voltigeurs 3, Sagueneens 2 (SO)

At Drummondville, Que., Marc-Olivier Vachon scored the only goal of the shootout as the Voltigeurs outlasted Chicoutimi.

Ondrej Palat and Philippe Bergeron scored in regulation for Drummondville (7-0-0-1).

Rock Regimbald and Antoine Roussel replied for the Sagueneens (2-4-0-3).


Huskies 7, Rocket 2

At Rouyn-Noranda, Que., Philippe Cornet led the way with two goals and two assists as the Huskies routed P.E.I.

Jerome Gauthier-Leduc scored twice and added an assist, Gabriel Levesque had a goal and two assists, while Jeff Desjardins and Pier-Luc Giguere also scored for Rouyn-Noranda (5-3-1-0).

Benjamin Casavant and Chris Doyle found the net for the Rocket (5-3-0-2).


Cataractes 5, Sea Dogs 4 (OT)

At Shawinigan, Que., Gabriel Lemieux scored his second goal of the game four minutes and 28 seconds into overtime to lead the Cataractes past Saint John.

Michael Bournival and Pierre-Alexandre Vandall each had a goal and an assist for Shawinigan (4-2-0-1), while Pierrick Martel also scored.

Nicholas Petersen scored twice in the third period to force overtime and added an assist for the Sea Dogs (5-3-1-0). Steven Anthony and Olivier Ouellet added goals.


Titan 3, Wildcats 1

At Moncton, Guillaume Nadeau stopped 39 of 40 shots as Acadie-Bathurst held off the Wildcats.

Vincent Couture put the Titan (4-3-1-1) ahead early in the third period, while Patrick Jones and Olivier Dame-Malka also scored.

Scott Brannon was the only Moncton (5-2-0-1) player to solve Nadeau.
