PORTLAND, Ore. - Calvin Pickard made 20 saves and Prab Rai scored two goals to lead the Seattle Thunderbirds to a 4-0 victory over the Portland Winter Hawks in Western Hockey League action on Saturday night.
It was the first career WHL victory and shutout for Pickard and the fourth time that Portland has been shutout this season.
Rai netted the only goal of the first period off a goalmouth scramble, set up by Jim O'Brien and David Richard. The Thunderbirds added two more in the second period: a rebound goal by Lindsay Nielsen and a shorthanded breakaway by Greg Scott. Rai's second goal came late in the final period.
Brenden Dillon, O'Brien and Richard each had two assists for Seattle (2-6-0-0).
Kurtis Mucha went the distance in net for Portland (1-6-0-0), stopping 27 shots in the loss.
The game ended with a line brawl featuring all five players from each team, resulting in 10 fighting majors and nine game misconducts.
