Quinnipiac, Minnesota - the NCAA's top two seeds - hope to right the ship as tourney nears @NHLdotcom

The NCAA hockey tournament opens this weekend with its top two seeds coming off poor performances in their conference tournaments.

Quinnipiac, ranked No. 1 overall, is just 4-3 in March after losing 4-0 to Brown in the ECAC semifinals last weekend.

They face Canisius (19-18-5) in the first round of the East Regional in Providence Saturday. The Golden Griffins are riding a nation's best eight-game winning streak.

Minnesota (26-8-5), the top seed in the West, lost to Colorado College in the WCHA tournament. They will face Yale (18-12-3) Friday in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Meanwhile UMass Lowell, Notre Dame, Union, and Wisconsin all come into the 16-team tournament, like Canisius, having won at least six in a row.
