QMJHL Roundup: Screaming Eagles hold off Remparts to take 2-1 series lead @NHLdotcom

SYDNEY, N.S. - No comeback was happening on Tuesday night.

After trailing by four entering the third period, the Quebec Remparts rallied for five in the period but it wasn't enough as the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles hung on for a 6-5 win in Game 3 of their Quebec Major Junior Hockey League first-round playoff series.

The win gives the Screaming Eagles a 2-1 series lead over the Memorial Cup host.

Loik Leveille scored twice and added an assist for Cape Breton, while Marcus Hinds had a goal and three assists. Bradley Lalonde had the winner with Clark Bishop and Pierre-Luc Dubois rounding out the attack.

Guillaume Gauthier, Ryan Graves, Adam Erne, Raphael Maheux and Jerome Verrier supplied the offence for the Remparts.

Miguel Sullivan got the win after stopping all five shots he faced in 8:02. Sullivan replaced Alexandre Belanger, who turned aside 26-of-31 shots in 51:58. Callum Booth started for Quebec but was pulled after allowing four goals on 10 shots in 23:35. Zachary Fucale took the loss after making 17 saves.

The Screaming Eagles went 2 for 7 with the man advantage while the Remparts scored twice on six chances.

The series resumes on Thursday with Game 4 in Sydney.



SAINT JOHN, N.B. ??? Jeremy Gregoire and Vaclav Karabacek each had a goal and two assists as Baie-Comeau took a 3-0 series lead by edging the Sea Dogs in first-round playoff action.

Mathieu Desautels, Nicolas Meloche, Simon Desbiens, and Maxime Sy-Cyr also found the back of the net for the Drakkar. Philippe Cadorette made 36 saves for the win.

Mark Tremaine had a goal and three assists to lead Saint John. Samuel Dove-McFalls, Spencer Smallman, Mathieu Joseph and Adam Bateman also chipped in. Sebastien Auger stopped 34 shots in defeat.

The Sea Dogs will look to avoid elimination on Thursday when they host Game 4.



HALIFAX ??? Dennis Yan scored his second goal of the game at 10:48 of overtime and Marvin Cupper made 41 saves as Shawinigan edged the Mooseheads to go up 2-1 in its first-round matchup.

Nicholas Welsh also scored for the Cataractes while Christophe Lalonde tacked on three assists.

Timo Meier and Danny Moynihan each had a goal and an assist for Halifax, which got a 35-save performance from Eric Brassard.

Game 4 goes Wednesday in Halifax.



VICTORIAVILLE, Que. ??? Michael Joly had two goals and an assist and Alexis Loiseau scored once and set up three more as Rimouski hammered the Tigres for a 3-0 first-round series lead.

Jan Kostalek, Anthony Chapados, Deven St-Hilaire, Anthony DeLuca and Christopher Clapperton also scored for the Oceanic as Louis-Philip Guindon made 19 saves for the win.

Nikita Li put the Tigres on the board. Chase Marchand allowed five goals on 26 shots before giving way to Olivier Tremblay, who stopped 9-of-12 shots in 24:29 of relief.

Victoriaville hosts Game 4 Wednesday.



ROUYN-NORANDA, Que. ??? Julien Gauthier had a hat trick and Etienne Monpetit made 27 saves as Val-d'Or downed the Huskies for a 2-1 first-round series lead.

Pierre-Maxime Poudrier, William Gignac and Simon Tremblay also scored for the Foreurs.

Mathieu Lemay and Ryan Penny each had a goal and an assist for Rouyn-Noranda, which got a 27-save performance from Samuel Harvey.

Game 4 is Wednesday in Rouyn-Noranda.



GATINEAU, Que. ????????? Francois Brassard made 20 saves and the Olympiques scored three times in the third period to come from behind and take Game 3 from Blainville-Boisbriand.

Jake Coughler, Louick Marcotte and Valentin Zykov scored in the third for Gatineau, which leads the first-round series 2-1, and Yakov Trenin found the back of the net in the first.

Philippe Sanche and Miguel Picard gave the Armada a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes of play. Samuel Montembault kicked out 16-of-20 shots in a losing cause.

Gatineau hosts Game 4 Wednesday.
