QMJHL Roundup: Adam Erne leads Remparts in 7-0 rout of Cataractes @NHLdotcom

Adam Erne scored four goals and picked up an assist as the Quebec Remparts blanked the visiting Shawinigan Cataractes 7-0 on Friday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

The 17-year-old has seven goals and 12 points in his last six contests.

In only his second QMJHL start, rookie Zachary Fortin stopped all 19 shots he faced to earn his first career shutout.

Mikhail Grigorenko had a goal and an assist for the Remparts (11-3-0) while Stephen Midensky chipped in with three assists.

Grigorenko extended his point streak to 12 games, which includes 10 goals and 24 points.

Jason Houde and Frederic Bergeron added a goal apiece to round out Quebec's offence.

The Cataractes (2-9-2) have now dropped eight games in a row and have been outscored 14-1 in their last two outings.

Marvin Cupper stopped 22-of-27 shots in a losing effort.

Quebec went 2-for-5 on the power play while Shawinigan failed to score on four chances with the man advantage.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL, it was: Drummondville 4, Cape Breton 1; Saint John 4, P.E.I. 3 (OT); Moncton 3, Blainville-Boisbriand 2; Sherbrooke 3, Baie-Comeau 2 (SO); Gatineau 4, Acadie-Bathurst 3 and Rimouski 4, Val-d'Or 3 (SO).

At Quebec City, within the first 14 minutes of the opening period the Remparts jumped out to a 4-0 lead.

Erne opened the scoring 2:43 into the game, Grigorenko followed with a power-play goal at 6:57, Bergeron scored at 10:48 and Erne added his second of the period at 13:42.

Erne's third and fourth goal of the game was the only scoring of the second period and gave Quebec a 6-0 lead after 40 minutes of play.

Houde added a goal at 17:51 of the third period.

At Sydney, N.S., Jerome Verrier's goal with 16 seconds remaining in the first period stood up as the winner and Domenic Graham stopped 16 shots as Drummondville (8-7-0) beat Cape Breton (3-8-4).

At Saint John, N.B., Kevin Gagne scored 2:44 into overtime and Stephen MacAulay had a goal and two assists as the Sea Dogs (7-7-0) edged P.E.I. (10-4-1).


Wildcats 3 Armada 2

At Boisbriand, Que., Ivan Barbashev scored the winning goal with only 18 seconds left in the third period as Moncton (8-7-0) came back from two goals down to beat Blainville-Boisbriand (10-3-2).


Phoenix 3 Drakkar 2 (SO)

At Sherbrooke, Que., Alexandre Comtois scored the shootout winner and Jack Finn stopped 42-of-44 shots as the Phoenix (3-11-1) halted a three-game losing streak by defeating Baie-Comeau (8-5-1).


Olympiques 4 Titan 3

At Gatineau, Que., Anthony Cortese and Martin Reway scored third period goals as the Olympiques (5-8-1) came from behind to beat Acadie-Bathurst (6-6-4), who have now dropped three straight matches.


Oceanic 4 Foreurs 3 (SO)

At Val-d'Or, Que., Maxime Gravel scored the winner in the shootout and Peter Trainor scored twice in regulation as Rimouski (9-4-2) slipped past the Foreurs (6-7-2).
