Defenceman Charles-Olivier Roussel scored a late power-play goal and the Saint John Sea Dogs won their 12th straight home game, 4-3 over the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action Wednesday.
With just over three minutes left in regulation, Roussel snuck in from the point and took a pass from Danick Gauthier in the corner before firing the puck past Rouyn-Noranda goaltender Robin Gusse. The goal came after the Huskies' Maxime St-Cyr shot the puck over the glass and took a delay-of-game penalty.
Zack Phillips had two goals and Gauthier scored his league-leading 23rd goal and added two assists for the Sea Dogs (20-6-0), who have won six straight games overall and nine of their last 10.
Tomas Jurco and Nathan Beaulieu each added two assists while Mathieu Corbeil made 27 saves.
Mathieu Brisebois scored twice and Mathieu Lemay also had a goal for the Huskies (7-16-2), who gave the first-place Sea Dogs all they could handle. Gusse made 25 saves.
Elsewhere in the QMJHL it was: Cape Breton 4 P.E.I. 3; Rimouski 4 Acadie-Bathurst 1; Quebec 4 Baie-Comeau 2; and Blainville-Boisbriand 3 Val-d'Or 2 (SO).
At Saint John, N.B., the Sea Dogs dominated play early, scoring on a power play just 1:44 into the game. Phillips slid the puck behind Gusse as Beaulieu drove to the net.
Gauthier extended his league lead with his 23rd goal of the season at 19:32, with an assist from Jurco.
The Huskies, 16th overall in the 17-team league, surprised the Sea Dogs with a spirited start to the second period. It paid off when Brisebois cruised in on the right wing and fired the puck past Corbeil at 8:25.
The Huskies held much of the momentum until Phillips scored on Beaulieu's pass from the left wing at 15:24.
The Huskies continued to pressure the Sea Dogs in the third period, and pulled within a goal when Brisebois scored at 3:12.
Less than two minutes later, the Huskies scored again on a three-way passing play started by Jean-Francois Grenier and finished by Brisebois at the five-minute mark.
After Roussel put Saint John ahead, the Sea Dogs took a late penalty with Gagne heading to the box for hooking at 17:30. But Rouyn-Noranda couldn't take advantage, finishing the game 0-for-2 on the power play.
Saint John scored on both of its power-play chances.

At Val-d'Or, Que., Cole Hawes scored the only goal in the shootout as the Armada (12-12-1) beat the Foreurs (10-14-3).
