QMJHL Roundup: A look at Satruday's games
NHL.com @NHLIn a battle for top spot in the Telus West Division, the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada needed a shootout to defeat the Gatineau Olympiques 3-2 on Friday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.
Xavier Ouellet scored the shootout winner for the Armada (14-13-2) while Cedrick Paquette and Cole Hawes scored in regulation time.
Raphael Lafontaine and Felix Bergeron responded for the Olympiques (13-10-4), who wasted a 53-save performance from Francois Lacerte.
William Racicot made 17 saves for the win.
Neither team had any luck with the power play, combining to go 0-for-10.
Both teams have 30 points, but Blainville-Boisbriand has one more win than Gatineau and leads the division. The Olympiques have two games in hand.
Elsewhere in the QMJHL, it was: Shawinigan 6, Rimouski 3; Victoriaville 8, Drummondville 5; Saint John 4, Cape Breton 1 and Val-d'Or 5, Baie-Comeau 4.
At Boisbriand, Que., Bergeron scored at 5:10 of the first period to give the Olympiques a 1-0 lead.
The lead would last just over a minute as Hawes scored at 6:28, making it 1-1 heading into the first intermission.
The Armada dominated the second period, outshooting Gatineau 23-8, but the only goal came from Lafontaine with 13 seconds remaining in the period to give the Olympiques a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes.
Paquette scored at 13:00 of the third period to tie the game 2-2 and force overtime.
After no one could score in the extra time, Ouellet scored the shoot-out winner to give Blainville-Boisbriand the win.
