QMJHL point leader Riendeau scores OT winner as Voltigeurs edge Lewiston 3-2 @NHLdotcom

In a game that was all Drummondville in every category but the score, Yannick Riendeau made sure the Voltigeurs escaped with the two points they deserved.

Riendeau scored his second goal of the game on a penalty shot 55 seconds into overtime as Drummondville edged the Lewiston Maineiacs 3-2 on Friday night in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

The Voltigeurs outshot Lewiston 23-1 in the second period and 69-16 overall. Seven of those 69 shots were fired in less than a minute of overtime. Despite the disparity in shots, the Maineiacs managed to escape with a point thanks to the netminding heroics of Adrien Lemay, who stopped 66 shots.

Riendeau, the QMJHL's leading scorer with 91 points (41 goals, 50 assists) in 49 games, also scored midway through the third period to tie the game for Drummondville (41-9-0-3), which remained atop the league standings with the win.

Mike Hoffman scored the Voltigeurs' other goal, extending his point streak to 12 games, during which he has 12 goals and 10 assists. Hoffman, a Kitchener, Ont., native, has 75 points (38-37) this season, good for third place in scoring on Drummondville, which leads the league with 254 goals.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL, it was: Rimouski 4, Saint John 2; Halifax 3, Rouyn-Noranda 1; Shawinigan 4, Baie-Comeau 0; P.E.I. 4, Chicoutimi 1; Gatineau 3, Victoriaville 2; and Val-d'Or 5, Montreal 2.

At Drummondville, Que., Billy Lacasse had a shorthanded goal and Steeven Jacques scored on a third-period penalty shot for the Maineiacs (18-35-1-1).

Antoine Tardif made 14 saves for the Voltigeurs.


Oceanic 4, Sea Dogs 2

At Saint John, N.B., Jordan Caron's two goals helped lift Rimouski over the Sea Dogs.

Sebastien Piche had a goal and an assist and Frederic Desrochers also scored for the Oceanic (30-22-1-0), who have won six straight.

Payton Liske and Olivier Ouellet found the net for Saint John (27-24-2-2).


Mooseheads 3, Huskies 1

At Halifax, Yuri Cheremetiev scored the game-winner with under five minutes remaining in the third period as the Mooseheads upset Rouyn-Noranda.

Gerrad Grant had a goal and an assist and Charles Bety also scored for Halifax (15-32-3-2).

Benoit Gervais scored a shorthanded goal for the Huskies (24-24-4-3).


Cataractes 4, Drakkar 0

At Shawinigan, Que., Michael Bournival scored a pair and Gabriel Girard made 18 saves as the Cataractes blanked Baie-Comeau.

Cedric Lalonde-McNicoll had a goal and an assist and Dave Labrecque also scored for Shawinigan (41-11-2-0).

Francois Lacerte stopped 28 shots for the Drakkar (16-29-5-2).


Rocket 4, Sagueneens 1

At Charlottetown, Joel Champagne scored twice as the Rocket downed Chicoutimi.

Jarrad Struthers had a goal and an assist and Chris Doyle also scored for P.E.I. (20-25-4-5).

Mathieu Populus had the lone marker for the Sagueneens (17-25-4-6).


Olympiques 3, Tigres 2

At Victoriaville, Que., Steven Delisle scored the game-winner and added an assist to help Gatineau edge the Tigres.

Yoan Pinette and Paul Byron added goals for the Olympiques (30-21-2-2).

Philip-Michael Devos and Maxime Tanguay replied for Victoriaville (27-26-0-1).


Foreurs 5, Junior 2

At Montreal, Jonathan Hazen and Marco Scandella had a goal and an assist each as Val-d'Or beat the Junior.

Cedrick Henley, Samuel Morneau and Keven Guerette-Charland also scored for the Foreurs (16-31-3-4), who have won five games in a row.

Angelo Esposito and Alex Wall scored for Montreal (25-23-1-2).
