QMJHL: Comtois, Gervais-Chouinard save Phoenix from Voltigeurs rally @NHLdotcom

Alexandre Comtois and Jacob Gervais-Chouinard saved the day for the Sherbrooke Phoenix on Tuesday.

Comtois had the only goal of the shootout and Gervais-Chouinard stopped all three Voltigeurs attempts he faced as Sherbrooke edged Drummondville 6-5 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

Michael McNamee had a hat trick as the Phoenix jumped out to a 5-0 lead by the 16:20 mark of the first period. Two of McNamee's goals came on the power play.

Jordan Murray scored just over a minute after McNamee's third goal to get Drummondville on the board. The Voltigeurs then scored four goals in the second and third periods, with Murray's second goal of the night forcing overtime.

Gervais-Chouinard made 39 saves in regulation and overtime for the win. Louis-Philip Guindon stopped 12 of 14 shots for the Voltigeurs and stopped McNamee in the shootout. Domenic Graham was in Drummondville's net for 14:45, making five saves on eight shots.

The Phoenix went 2-for-4 on the power play, while the Voltigeurs were 2-for-5 with the man advantage.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL it was: Cape Breton 2, Saint John 1; and Gatineau 7, Chicoutimi 2.

At Drummondville, Que., Vincent Deslauriers and Denis Kamaev also scored for Sherbrooke (13-27-6) in regulation time, while Matthew Boudens, Guillaume Gauthier and Jeremie Malouin had the other goals for the Voltigeurs (25-16-4).

At Sydney, N.S., Charles-Eric Legare and Justin Hache both scored as Cape Breton (10-29-8) fended off Saint John (19-27-0).


Olympiques 7, Sagueneens 2

At Chicoutimi, Que., Etienne Boutet and Tomas Hyka both had two goals and an assist as Gatineau (20-22-3) routed the Sagueneens (23-21-4).
