NHL unveils 2019 Winter Classic logo

Notre Dame Stadium will host annual outdoor game between Blackhawks, Bruins on New Year's Day

NEW YORK - The National Hockey League today unveiled the 2019 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic® logo as the Chicago Blackhawks® prepare to host the Boston Bruins® outdoors at Notre Dame Stadium on New Year's Day.

Designed by Fanbrandz (Montclair, N.J.) and NHL Creative Services, the 2019 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic® logo celebrates the first NHL outdoor hockey game to be played at iconic Notre Dame Stadium. This year's logo features an ice-frosted, green iconic shamrock, a tip o' the hat to the famed history and fabled legacy of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The logo features a cursive inspired NHL Winter Classic® type treatment which is an evolution of the typography that has become a familiar and consistent feature in all 10 previous NHL Winter Classic® logos.

O'Ree, first black NHL player, to be inducted into Hockey Hall of Fame

Made historic debut in 1958, joins Brodeur, St. Louis, Bettman, Hefford, Yakushev in Class of 2018

NEW YORK/TORONTO - The Hockey Hall of Fame announced today that Willie O'Ree, the first black player ever to play in the National Hockey League, was elected to be inducted as a member of the Class of 2018.

O'Ree, who made his NHL debut on Jan.18, 1958, playing for the Boston Bruins against the Montreal Canadiens in the Montreal Forum, is a trailblazer who paved the way for the players of diverse ethnic backgrounds who have succeeded him in the subsequent 60 years. In his roles as NHL Diversity Ambassador and Director of Youth Development over the last 20 years, O'Ree has helped establish 39 local grassroots hockey programs and inspired countless young people to play the game in its many forms.

Brodeur, St. Louis among six selected for Hockey Hall of Fame

NHL Commissioner Bettman, O'Ree, Hefford, Yakushev also in Class of 2018

TORONTO - Lanny McDonald, Chairman of the Hockey Hall of Fame announced today that six individuals have been elected to Hockey Hall of Fame Honoured Membership, four in the Player Category and two in the Builder Category. The vote took place today at the annual meeting of the Selection Committee in Toronto.

"The Hockey Hall of Fame is proud to welcome these hockey legends as Honoured Members," said Lanny McDonald. "Their contributions to the game of hockey are well documented and their election to the Hockey Hall of Fame is richly deserved."

Humboldt Broncos receive E.J. McGuire Award of Excellence

Honor named after late scouting visionary presented prior to start of NHL Draft in Dallas

DALLAS - Prior to the start of the 2018 NHL Draft in Dallas, the 2017-18 Humboldt Broncos of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League were presented with the E.J. McGuire Award of Excellence, the National Hockey League announced this evening. Broncos president Kevin Garinger accepted the engraved crystal from NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman on the team's behalf.

Created in 2015, the E.J. McGuire Award of Excellence is given annually by the League to the candidate who exemplifies commitment to excellence through strength of character, competitiveness and athleticism.

2018-19 NHL schedule released

Season opens Oct. 3, will include games in Sweden, Finland, outdoors at Notre Dame, Philadelphia

NEW YORK - The NHL's 2018-19 regular season will commence Wednesday, Oct. 3, with a four-game slate, highlighted by the Washington Capitals raising their first Stanley Cup championship banner before facing the Boston Bruins at Capital One Arena. The 1,271-game regular-season schedule - 82 games per team - will conclude Saturday, April 6, 2019.

The other three games on the first night of the 2018-19 season include the Montreal Canadiens visiting the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena; the Vancouver Canucks hosting the Calgary Flames at Rogers Arena; and the San Jose Sharks playing host to the Anaheim Ducks at SAP Center.

LAS VEGAS - NHL MVP Taylor Hall of the New Jersey Devils, voted to his first career berth on the First All-Star Team, heads the list of players on the 2017-18 National Hockey League postseason All-Star Teams. Hall, who received the Hart Trophy as the League's most valuable player at the 2018 NHL Awards, posted a career-high 93 points in propelling the Devils to a 27-point improvement in the standings and their first playoff appearance since 2011-12.

Norris, Calder, Vezina, Hart among trophies to be given out

LAS VEGAS - The National Hockey League announced today the order of the presentation for tonight's 2018 NHL Awards™ presented by Hulu. NBCSN and Sportsnet will broadcast the two-hour television event live from the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas in the United States and Canada, respectively, at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT.

 The 2018 NHL Awards™ presented by Hulu will honor the best regular-season performances in a wide range of categories. The 2017-18 regular season concluded with Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid capturing his second consecutive Art Ross Trophy as the League's scoring champion, Washington Capitals left wing Alex Ovechkin claiming his seventh career Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy as the NHL's goal-scoring leader and Jonathan Quick of the Los Angeles Kings winning his second career William M. Jennings Trophy as the goaltender who plays at least 25 games for the club allowing the fewest goals.

2018-19 NHL home openers

Season begins Oct. 3, when Capitals host Bruins

The League's complete 1,271-game schedule will be revealed live on NHL Network tomorrow, Thursday, June 21, at 5 p.m. ET during NHL Tonight: 2018-19 Schedule Release, hosted by Fran Charles and analysts Ken Daneyko and Mike Johnson.
