USA Hockey, NHL Network extend exclusive TV rights agreement

Coverage of World Junior Championship, Women's World Championship included

USA Hockey and NHL Network today announced an agreement that gives NHL Network the exclusive U.S. rights to televise the IIHF World Junior Championship, IIHF Women's World Hockey Championship and the IIHF Under-18 Men's World Championship through 2021. NHL Network will provide complete coverage of each tournament, including game telecasts and comprehensive previews, highlights and analysis within its studio programming.

Oakland University to receive funding for NCAA feasibility study

Joint NHL/NHLPA fund to help school judge possibility of adding men's, women's ice hockey

DETROIT -- The National Hockey League, National Hockey League Players' Association and Detroit Red Wings announced today that Oakland University will be the second U.S. collegiate institution to be evaluated for the possible addition of NCAA Division I men's and women's hockey programs. In June, the University of Illinois was the first of five schools announced to take part in the NCAA Feasibility Study.

"Today's exciting announcement in Detroit is part of the effort to maximize the number of families who have access to the game of hockey," said Pat LaFontaine, NHL Vice President of Hockey Development & Community Affairs. "The Declaration of Principles highlights the greater value of participating in sports and this initiative is a piece in the bigger puzzle of maximizing access to our sport. Whether it's at the men's and women's college level or the grass roots level, the sport of hockey offers values that last long after the game has ended."

Lindberg, Ogrean to receive Lester Patrick Trophy

NEW YORK -- The National Hockey League today announced Peter Lindberg and Dave Ogrean have been named the recipients of the 2017 Lester Patrick Trophy for outstanding service to hockey in the United States.

The annual award, one of the most prestigious in hockey, was presented to the National Hockey League by the New York Rangers in 1966. It honors the memory of Lester Patrick, who spent 50 years in hockey as a player, coach and general manager and was a pioneer in the sport's development.

NEW YORK - Stanley Cup champion, two-time NHL All-Star and 1,000-point scorer Ray Whitney has joined the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety, NHL Senior Vice President Player Safety George Parros announced today.

The second player ever drafted by the San Jose Sharks (23rd overall in 1991), Whitney used his elite hockey sense and deft playmaking ability to become one of the League's most consistently productive players during a 22-season NHL career with eight teams. He scored 385 goals with 679 assists for 1,064 points in 1,330 NHL games.
