Nicklas Backstrom and Evgeny Kuznetsov scored in the shootout to give the Washington Capitals a come-from-behind 3-2 victory against the Philadelphia Flyers in a preseason game at Verizon Center on Thursday.
Washington's Eric Fehr tied the game 2-2 when he scored with 1:01 left in regulation.
Backstrom opened the shootout by beating Flyers goaltender Steve Mason through the five-hole. Kuznetsov ended the game by doing the same to start the third round. Justin Peters stopped two Philadelphia shooters, Jakub Voracek and Jason Akeson.
The Flyers led 1-0 on a first-period goal by defenseman Mark Streit.
Capitals rookie Andre Burakovsky tied it at 9:25 of the second period, but Akeson put the Flyers back in front 33 seconds later.
Peters made 25 saves. Mason stopped 18 shots.
It was the final preseason game for the Flyers, who open the season on the road against the Boston Bruins on Oct. 8.
The Capitals host the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday in the final preseason game on the schedule. Washington opens the regular season at home against the Montreal Canadiens on Oct. 9.

Devils 2, Islanders 1: Travis Zajac scored the only goal in the shootout to give the New Jersey Devils a win against the New York Islanders at Prudential Center.
The Devils were 0-13 in the shootout during the 2013-14 regular season and lost one to the Islanders this preseason.
Zajac had an assist when Mike Cammalleri scored a power-play goal for New Jersey 3:16 into the first period. Kael Mouillierat tied the game 4:51 into the third.
Devils goalie Cory Schneider made 20 saves and stopped four shooters in the tiebreaker. Islanders goalie Jaroslav Halak made 21 saves and denied three shootout attempts.

Lightning 3, Panthers 0: Evgeni Nabokov made 21 saves and Nikita Kucherov scored twice in the third period for the Tampa Bay Lightning in a win against the Florida Panthers at BB&T Center.
Ondrej Palat scored a first-period goal for the Lightning; Vladislav Namestnikov had two assists.
Roberto Luongo made 30 saves for the Panthers, who are 0-3-2 this preseason.

Blues 4, Wild 1: Jordan Leopold scored the go-ahead goal 5:33 into the third period to give the St. Louis Blues a preseason win against the Minnesota Wild at Scottrade Center in the opener of a home-and-home series.
Leopold had a wide-open net after a pass by Vladimir Tarasenko and beat out-of-position Niklas Backstrom to snap a 1-1 tie. T.J Oshie scored a power-play goal with 2:51 remaining, and David Backes scored into the empty net with 1:29 to play.
Jason Zucker put the Wild ahead at 19:08 of the first period with an unassisted goal, but Patrik Berglund tied it 7:55 into the second period.
Backstrom made 33 saves. Jake Allen stopped 14 shots for the Blues, who visit Minnesota on Saturday.

Flames 4, Jets 2: | WATCH HIGHLIGHTS | Sean Monahan and Josh Jooris each scored twice for the Calgary Flames in a win against the Winnipeg Jets at Scotiabank Saddledome.
Johnny Gaudreau had three assists for Calgary, and Karri Ramo made 16 saves.
Mark Schiefele scored in the second period for the Jets to tie the game 1-1. Chris Thorburn scored in the final minute, and Michael Hutchinson made 21 saves for Winnipeg.
The teams play a rematch at Winnipeg on Saturday to complete their preseasons.

Canucks 2, Oilers 1: | WATCH HIGHLIGHTS | Second-period goals by Nick Bonino and Alexander Edler in a span of less than five minutes helped the Vancouver Canucks to a preseason win against the Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place in the first of a home-and-home series.
Bonino took a feed from Edler and tied the game by scoring a shorthanded goal at 10:49. Edler converted a pass from Nick Jensen past Viktor Fasth at 14:57.
Eddie Lack made 21 saves for the Canucks, allowing a first-period goal to Teddy Purcell. Fasth stopped 21 shots.
The teams play again Saturday night in Vancouver.

Kings 2, Avalanche 1 (SO): Rookie Jordan Weal scored the deciding goal in the sixth round of the shootout to give the Los Angeles Kings a victory against the Colorado Avalanche in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The teams meet again Saturday in Las Vegas, with the Avalanche (0-5-2) trying to avoid a winless preseason. The Kings (5-0-1) have won five in a row.
Tyler Toffoli gave the Kings a 1-0 lead 3:37 into the game when he tapped in a pass from Jeff Carter to complete a 2-on-1. Colorado got even at 19:46 when Max Talbot beat Jonathan Quick with a high shot from the slot for a power-play goal. It was the eighth non-shootout goal for Colorado in seven games.
Reto Berra made 42 saves for Colorado but was beaten twice in the shootout when a save would have given the Avalanche a victory. Quick stopped 20 of 21 shots in two periods and Martin Jones made 13 saves in the third period and OT.
