The deal, which starts with the 2013-14 season, will pay Bourque $725,000 in 2013-14 and $825,000 in 2014-15.

Bourque, 21, posted seven goals and 19 points in 43 games during his rookie season in 2011-12, ranking ninth in points per game among rookies who appeared in at least half their team's games (0.44).

During the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs, the 5-foot-10, 192-pound wing tied for the team lead with three goals and ranked third with five points, also ranking among the overall rookie leaders in both categories. Bourque set franchise records for points (3-1-4) and plus-minus rating (plus-5) by a rookie in a playoff series in Nashville's Western Conference Quarterfinal victory vs. the Detroit Red Wings, which included scoring two goals, including the game-winner, in his NHL playoff debut in Game 1, making him the third player in the past 14 playoff years to accomplish the feat.

The Rimouski, Quebec native, selected in the fifth round (No. 132) of the 2009 NHL Draft, helped Moncton win the 2010 President’s Trophy as Quebec Mmajor Junior Hockey League Champions and advance to the 2010 Memorial Cup, being awarded the 2010 Guy Lafleur Trophy as playoffs MVP in the process. Bourque earned a silver medal with Canada at the 2010 World Junior Championship.
