The New York Islanders dropped a 5-1 decision to the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night, as the teams played for the third time in three days to start the preseason.
David Quenneville scored the Islanders lone goal on Tuesday, but the Flyers answered with four straight to turn a 1-1 tie into a 5-1 final to hand the Isles a second straight loss.
"I think we can play a little better defensively," Head Coach Barry Trotz said. "We looked a little bit fatigued and I think that's the grind of training camp."

James de Hass opened the scoring for the Flyers with a point shot through traffic at 13:24 of the first period. Quenneville answered for the Islanders at 8:12 of the second, beating Anthony Stolarz (31 saves) with a one-timer short side on a delayed penalty.
The Flyers responded with three goals in a 3:51 span. Carsen Twarynski beat Robin Lehner (18 saves on 22 shots) blocker side to make it 2-1, Phil Varone scored from the circle on a delayed penalty to make it 3-1 and Danick Martel made it 4-1 before the end of the period.
Christopher Gibson entered the game in the third period for the Islanders and stopped seven-of-eight shots in relief. Jori Lehtera's first goal of the preseason cemented the 5-1 final.
"We did some good things offensively, we had some good chances, but couldn't find the back of the net," Trotz said. "I thought our penalty kill was much better. It was obviously a bit of a different group, but at the same time, I thought some of the details were much better."

QUENNEVILLE SHOWS OFFENSIVE ABILITY:

David Quenneville looked comfortable in the offensive zone on Tuesday night, but that shouldn't be a surprise for the WHL's most offensive defenseman.
Quenneville, who led WHL defensemen with 80 points last season, scored the lone goal in the 5-1 loss to the Flyers, skating around the offensive zone before ripping a one-timer short side from the half wall on a delayed penalty. The Islanders 2016 seventh-round pick also rang a shot off the post marking the Islanders second-best chance of the night.
"As the game went on I started to feel a lot better," said Quenneville, who will turn pro this season. "I was more comfortable and started making more plays in the o-zone which is more directed to where my game is based."
The goal got the Islanders into a 1-1 tie and helped Quenneville offset the Flyers first goal, which he felt partially responsible for with a turnover on the preceding sequence.
"[There were] a lot of little mistakes that cost us coming from me tonight," Quenneville said. "I think I got better as the game went on."
Overall, Quenneville had a good night for a young defenseman with a goal, four shots, four hits, a blocked shot and a takeaway in 17:38 TOI, largely on a pairing with Nick Leddy. The 20-year-old called Tuesday was a good learning experience for himself and the team as a whole.
"This is the preseason and there's a lot of hockey left," Quenneville said. "I think every day is a learning experience for all of us."
