Just as the pregame warmup began, the Canadiens announced that captain Shea Weber would miss his first game of the season due to an upper-body injury.
He was replaced by newcomer Erik Gustafsson, who didn't play earlier in the week against Toronto.
With forwards Tomas Tatar and Paul Byron still on the sidelines, here's the lineup featured by interim head coach Dominique Ducharme heading into the contest.

There were no goals to report until the latter stages of the first period when centreman Paul Stastny opened the scoring with 1:35 remaining in the frame.
Defenseman Dylan DeMelo hit a streaking Stastny up the middle, and he proceeded to beat goaltender Jake Allen upstairs on the glove side on a breakaway.

It was Stastny's 13th goal of the season.
Captain Blake Wheeler also collected an assist on the play.
The Jets led 1-0 after 20 minutes, while the Canadiens held a 13-8 advantage in the shots department.
Winnipeg went up by a pair when right-winger Trevor Lewis solved Allen at the 2:20 mark of the second period.
Left-winger Jansen Harkins made an outstanding cross-ice feed to his linemate in the slot, and Lewis lit the lamp for his fourth goal of the season.

Just 2:28 later, though, centreman Nick Suzuki responded for the Canadiens, jumping on a loose puck in front of Hellebuyck to cut the Jets advantage to 2-1.
It was Suzuki's 11th goal of the year, and his third tally in the last four encounters.

The 21-year-old London, ON native also extended his point streak to four consecutive games on the play.
The goal was unassisted.
Lewis scored his second goal of the night to put the Jets ahead 3-1 at the 11:47 mark of the stanza.
The two-time Stanley Cup champion pounced on an error by Gustafsson and capped a solo effort with his fifth goal of the season.

The snipe was unassisted.
Two minutes later, left-winger Artturi Lehkonen answered for the Canadiens with his fifth goal of the year.
Ben Chiarot and Jake Evans were credited with helpers on the 25-year-old Finn's second strike of the month.

Lehkonen snapped a four-game goal drought.
The Canadiens would tie things up 3-3 courtesy of right-winger Joel Armia's power play goal with 1:46 left before the break.
Suzuki fanned on a shot that found Armia's stick in the slot, and he beat Hellebuyck through the legs for his seventh goal of the season.

Tyler Toffoli also collected an assist on the play.
That's the way things stood after 40 minutes. The Habs were up 26-16 in shots.
Suzuki gave the Canadiens a 4-3 lead with his second goal of the night at the 15:10 mark of the third period on the power play, beating Hellebuyck with a wicked wrist shot.
It was his 12th goal of the year.

Jeff Petry and Corey Perry amassed the helpers on Suzuki's snipe.
Toffoli capped the scoring for the Canadiens with an empty-netter.
It was his team-leading 26th goal of the season.
Allen finished the game with 19 saves to collect his 13th win of the year.

The Canadiens will be back in action on Saturday night when they play host to the Ottawa Senators at the Bell Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.
