Following the game, forwards Jake Evans, Eric Staal and Tomas Tatar spoke with reporters via Zoom, along with interim head coach Dominique Ducharme.
Here are a few highlights from their respective chats:
Evans on what the Canadiens must improve ahead of Monday night's contest versus Toronto:
I think we did a lot of things wrong tonight, but it's all on us. It's about competing, winning your battles, playing smart and focusing. It's a lot of those things that Dom was saying earlier. We're shooting ourselves in the foot, so I think we did that again tonight.

Jake Evans on missed opportunities against the Jets

Evans on a disappointing showing against Winnipeg:
I think it's just a huge wake-up call. We can't win on skill, we can't win on playing a run-and-gun game with some of these teams. We're a team that's built on depth, and when everyone's going, I think we're an unbelievable team. We've got to change our ways pretty quickly here.
Staal on the most effective ways to get out of a slump:
You've got to be supportive of each other. When we're at our best, we're moving as a unit of five in every section of the ice. I think overall we've got to raise that compete level in those areas and support each other in those spots and execute. This game has a lot of ups and downs. There's momentum shifts, and I think right now it's about coming to work tomorrow and then responding with a good game on Monday.

Eric Staal on shifting focus to Monday's game

Staal on the challenge the Maple Leafs will present come next game:
All these teams are competitive every night. There are no easy games. Monday's going to be a huge test, like today was. It's about us and what we need to do as a group. Right now, it's about being smart, being good tomorrow, putting the right intentions forward, having a little burn for Monday, remembering how crappy this feeling is and doing something about it.
Tatar on the Canadiens' performance against the Jets:
I think our work ethic is there. We're kind of stabbing ourselves right now. We make big errors that cost the team goals. On the other hand, we're not able to score on our chances. It's hard to say that we didn't work or we didn't want it because I honestly think we did. It's just the mistakes we're making that are costing us games. We need to get rid of them. It's a long season. We have a lot of confidence to come back and be strong and help each other. We have to do that more on the ice, being closer and helping each other more in the defensive zone. We need to talk, and I think that's going to help us.

Tomas Tatar on the team sticking together

Tatar on the group's costly mistakes:
It's hard. Those errors happen and you don't like to see that, but that's not what work ethic is. When you want to work hard for a team, that would be tracking back or being physical or battling for the puck, that's work ethic. To miss a puck or to give up a chance, that's a mistake. It's on us. I feel like those mistakes are happening too often right now and we have to clean them up.
Ducharme on the importance of coming together as a cohesive unit:
There's one month left in the season. We want to finish strong. We want to be more consistent in the way we do things. We want this team to be successful, so we'll make the necessary decisions to move in the right direction.

Dominique Ducharme on the coach's challenge vs. WPG

Ducharme on being sharper execution-wise:
When there are less than 20 games left in a season, the style of play changes. It isn't the same as before. At this time of year, you pay for your mistakes. If you make one, it's going to hurt you. We have to find a way to be consistent. Our players are comfortable with what we want to do. We just need to be more consistent from an execution standpoint.
