Portland Winterhawks shade Spokane Chiefs 4-3; take 3-2 series lead @NHLdotcom

SPOKANE, Wash. - Ryan Johansen had a pair of goals as the Portland Winterhawks shaded the Spokane Chiefs 4-3 in Western Hockey League playoff action Saturday night.

Riley Boychuk and Luke Walker also scored for Portland, while Mac Carruth made 36 saves for the win.

Jared Cowen, Mitch Wahl and Kyle Beach supplied the offence for Spokane, while James Reid stopped 26 shots.

The Winterhawks have rallied in the playoff series, winning three straight to take a 3-2 lead in the pairing. Game 6 will be in Portland on Monday night.

Saturday night's game got off to a physical start as Johansen and the Chiefs' Levko Koper both earned double roughing penalties 51 seconds into the first period. A total of thirty minutes of penalties were assessed in the first, but tempers had cooled by the third where only one foul was called.
