Portland Winterhawks down Seattle Thunderbirds 6-3 in WHL action @NHLdotcom

KENT, Wash. - Brendan Leipsic and Nic Petan scored less than minute apart in the middle of the third period Saturday to break a 3-3 tie and lift the Portland Winterhawks to a 6-3 win over the Seattle Thunderbirds in Western Hockey League play.

Derrick Pouliot had four assists for Portland (2-0-).

Portland also had a pair of goals by Ty Rattie, the second into an empty net, and one each by Brad Ross and Troy Rutkowski.

Taylor Green, Chance Lund and Marcel Noebels scored for Thunderbirds (0-1-0) in their home opener.

Portland outshot Seattle 46-24 in the game with Calvin Pickard making 40 saves for Seattle.
