PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Matt Caria's five points led the Plymouth Whalers to an 8-2 win over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in Ontario Hockey League action Saturday night.
Caria had a hat trick and two assists, while Beau Schmitz scored a power-play goal (one of five for Plymouth) and added three assists for Plymouth (35-25-5-0).
Brett Bellemore, AJ Jenks, Tyler Seguin and captain Chris Terry (two assists) also scored to back Matt Hackett's 22-save performance in net for the Whalers, winners of five of their last six games.
Joe Gaynor and Michal Jordan chipped in two assists apiece for Plymouth.
James Livingston and Jake Carrick scored for the Greyhounds (19-42-2-2) and Bryce O'Hagan and Cody St. Jacques combined for 36 saves. O'Hagan also stopped Caria on a penalty shot early in the second period before getting pulled five minutes later at the 7:21 mark after allowing Plymouth's fifth goal.
Plymouth is now in a third-place tie with Saginaw in the OHL's Western Conference. The Greyhounds sit dead last in the conference and out of playoff contention.
