Plymouth cruises to 11-3 win over Sarnia; clinches post-season berth @NHLdotcom

The Plymouth Whalers earned a playoff spot in style Sunday afternoon.

Tyler Seguin and Ryan Hayes both scored twice and added an assist as Plymouth crushed the Sarnia Sting 11-3 in Ontario Hockey League action.

The Whalers have been one of the hottest teams in OHL, going 14-6-1 in 2010.

Plymouth has won four in a row, and are 7-2-1 in their last 10. They're currently the fourth seed in the OHL's Western Conference and with Sunday's win are guaranteed a playoff spot.

Plymouth's offence chased Shayne Campbell after just one period. Campbell stopped 12 of 16 shots before being replaced by Jesse Raymond who made 20 saves on 27 chances.

Matt Hackett made 26 saves for the Whalers.

Elsewhere in the OHL it was Barrie 2 Brampton 1; Kingston 7 Erie 5; Ottawa 5 Peterborough 2; Oshawa 5 Kitchener 4 and Guelph 5 Sault Ste. Marie 2.

At Sarnia, Ont., Robbie Czarnik and Stefan Noesen had a goal and two assists for Plymouth (36-22-2). Jay Gilbert, Tyler Brown, Garrett Meurs, Beau Schmitz and Jamie Devane also scored.

Nathan Chiarlitti, Brett Ritchie and Jesse Stoughton supplied the offence for Sarnia (16-40-4).


Colts 2 Battalion 1

At Brampton, Ont., Bryan Cameron's league-leading 46th goal was the eventual winner and paced Barrie to a victory over the Battalion.

Alex Hutchings had the other goal for the Colts (48-8-2).

Cody Hodgson was the lone scorer for Brampton (21-25-13).


Frontenacs 7 Otters 5

At Kingston, Ont., Zach Harnden had a hat trick as the Frontenacs toppled Erie.

Nathan Moon scored and added three assists for Kingston (29-26-4), while Joe Pleckaitis had a goal and two assists. Mitch Lebar and Michael Fine added goals.

Greg McKegg scored twice for the Otters (29-24-7), while Zack Torquato, Shawn Szydlowski and Paul Cianfrini also scored.


67's 5 Petes 2

At Ottawa, Corey Cowick had two goals as the 67's downed Peterborough.

Shane Prince and Andrew Merrett scored for Ottawa (31-22-7) while Tyler Toffoli scored into an empty net.

The Petes (25-31-4) got goals from Matt Puempel and Liam Heelis


Generals 5 Rangers 4

At Oshawa, Ont., Jeff Brown had three goals and an assist as the Generals held on for a win over Kitchener.

Alex Dzielski chipped in with a goal and an assist for Oshawa (22-32-5), while Christian Thomas scored the other goal short-handed.

Chris MacKinnon, Jeremy Morin and Gabriel Landeskog each had a goal and an assist for the Rangers (37-17-5), while Matthew Tipoff also scored.


Storm 5 Greyhounds 2

At Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., Michael Latta scored twice as Guelph skated to a win over the Greyhounds.

Peter Holland had a goal and two assists for Guelph (27-28-4), while Mathew Sisca and Cody McNaughton also scored.

Jordan Carroll and Jake Carrick replied for Sault Ste. Marie (30-24-5).
