The award is named for Barclay, Bob and Bill Plager, who each wore the Blue Note and exhibited the same qualities as the scholarship's nominees.
"To be with my brothers Barclay and Billy and have this award named after us, it is very special," Bob Plager said. "It's great to be involved with kids' hockey. I look at those traits: commitment, leadership, loyalty, respect and toughness. I think that's the Plagers right there."
Parents, teachers, coaches or teammates are encouraged to nominate a Missouri youth hockey player that exhibits those qualities online at stlouisblues.com/playhockey. Applications are being accepted until August 23.
Last year's winner, Jake Schlereth, is enrolled with the Chesterfield Hockey Assocation.
"When his name was announced, you'd never seen a happier kid," Bob Plager said. "The family, they needed help for him to continue and he's continued playing.
"To see the look in the kids faces that win it, it's quite an honor."
