Phoenix Coyotes acquire tough guy Brian McGrattan from Ottawa Senators @NHLdotcom

GLENDALE, Ariz. - The Phoenix Coyotes acquired tough guy Brian McGrattan from the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick in 2009.

"We thought with the youth of our team going forward we needed someone of Brian's talents," Coyotes GM Don Maloney told The Canadian Press. "I'm excited about it. I think he'll fit in well with our group."

The Coyotes tendered McGrattan the required US$605,000, one-year qualifying offer before the 5 p.m. ET deadline in order to retain his rights. He is a restricted free agent.

McGrattan, 26, has 287 penalty minutes in 143 career NHL games. He had three assists and 46 penalty minutes in 38 games with the Senators last season.
