KINGSTON, Ont. - Philip Lane scored twice, including the game-winner as the Brampton Battalion defeated the Kingston Frontenacs 5-2 in Game 7 of their Ontario Hockey League Eastern Conference quarter-final Tuesday night.

The Battalion will face the Colts in the conference semifinals, starting Thursday in Barrie.

Lane opened the scoring on an early first-period power play and added another during a three-goal second period for Brampton, which had a 4-0 lead heading into the final 20 minutes.

Sean Jones scored late in the second and added an empty-netter to seal the win - and the series - for the Battalion. Frontenacs forward Michael Farrell hit Jones after the empty-net goal and received a minor for cross-checking as well as a misconduct for abuse of an official.

Zach Harnden and Charles Sarault scored for Kingston in the opening minutes of the third period, but it wasn't enough to give the Frontenacs their first playoff series victory since 1998.

Stephon Thorne had the other goal for Brampton, last season's Eastern Conference champions. Battalion netminder Patrick Killeen made 27 saves.

Tyler Beskorowany stopped 35 shots for Kingston.
