Philip Lane scores twice as Brampton edges Mississauga St. Michael?s 2-1 @NHLdotcom

BRAMPTON, Ont. - Philip Lane scored both goals for the Battalion as Brampton edged the Mississauga St. Michael?s Majors 2-1 on Thursday night in the Ontario Hockey League.

The Majors opened the scoring at 2:14 of the first when Sergey Kuptsov converted Eric Diodati's feed to beat Matej Machovsky.

Lane responded four minutes later on first of the night and scored the go-ahead goal unassisted at 17:49 of the second period.

The Battalion (9-5-2) moved to within two points of the Majors (10-4-2) atop the Eastern Conference?s Central Division.

JP Anderson was excellent in net for the Majors despite taking the loss as he turned aside 42 of 44 shots.

Machovsky made 16 saves for the Battalion, who has given up the least amount of goals in the league with only 37 surrendered.
