Lightning come back to defeat Flyers

TAMPA -- Ryan Callahan and Alex Killorn scored goals 12 seconds apart in the third period to lift the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 4-2 win against the Philadelphia Flyers at Amalie Arena on Wednesday.
Callahan's game-winner came at 13:40 of the third when he put the puck past Flyers goalie Steve Mason off a perfect set-up pass from Brayden Point. Tyler Johnson started the play by chipping the puck past two defensemen. It ended up on Point's stick and he found Callahan open toward the right circle.
Tampa Bay (13-7-1) has won five of its past six games. Andrei Vasilevskiy made 29 saves.

"We were pushing hard and they took three penalties in the third," Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. "Ultimately they are [penalty] killing for so long you have to think that that helped out in the fact that we scored a couple of goals quick."
Killorn tied the game 2-2 at 13:28 of the third after he scored on a rebound off a wide shot from Slater Koekkoek.
"I was just driving to the net and Slater misses his shot and it ended up being a fortunate bounce to me," Killorn said. "It was kind of a tough angle. I am glad it went in."
Mason made 25 saves for Philadelphia (9-9-3). Rookie defenseman Ivan Provorov got his first NHL goal and Dale Weise scored for the second straight game.

The Flyers took a 2-1 lead at 19:05 of the second period when Provorov scored on a wrist shot from the left circle that got past Vasilevskiy.
"[The goal] felt great, it was a long-time coming," Provorov said. "For me the most important thing is to play good defense but when I have a chance I can help on offense."
Tampa Bay took a 1-0 lead at 19:57 of the first period when Victor Hedman scored a power-play goal. Hedman took a slap shot from the right side of the point that beat Mason on the glove side.
The Flyers tied the game 1-1 at 6:06 of the second period when Weise sent a shot on goal that Vasilevskiy appeared to make a save on but the puck bounced off his glove and into the net.
Nikita Kucherov scored his 10th goal of the season with 1:15 remaining in the third period to make it 4-2.
"Too many penalties overall, it disrupts the flow of the game and taxes the guys that are on the penalty kill," Mason said. "Penalty kill did a good job of giving us a chance but we just made some mistakes and it costs us. Whether you like the calls or not, it's too many penalties, especially against a team like that."

Goal of the game

Killorn's goal came on a 3-on-2 rush that was started by Kucherov controlling the puck off the boards and starting the break.
"I didn't realize it was a 3-on-2, Vladislav [Namestnikov] yelled at me," Killorn said "You always just keep going and hoping the more chances you get will help you score a goal."

Save of the game

The Flyers had two shots in the first period but one of them was on a breakaway by Weise that Vasilevskiy stopped with his pad and his stick at 6:53 of the first period.

Unsung moment of the game

The Flyers penalty killers were put to the test time and time again and held the Lightning to 1-of-7 on the power play. Forward Pierre-Edouard Bellemare played 8:06 shorthanded and center Chris VandeVelde played 7:48.

Highlight of the game

Callahan gave Point a lot of credit for the sequence that led to his goal.
"It was a great play, great look," Callahan said. "I was hoping he saw me and he had a lot of poise there. A lot of guys would throw that at the net. It was a great pass and that makes it pretty easy on me."

Vasilevskiy's scoreless streak ended at 178:02. …The Flyers two shots in the first period was a season low but their 22 shots in the second period was a season high. …Lightning forward JT Brown was a late scratch because of an upper-body injury.
