NEWARK, N.J.-- Cory Schneider made 16 saves for his first shutout of the season to help end a seven-game losing streak for the New Jersey Devils in a 4-0 win against the Philadelphia Flyers at Prudential Center on Thursday.
PA Parenteau had a goal and an assist, and Miles Wood, Adam Henrique and Kyle Palmieri also scored for the Devils (13-13-7), who are 1-6-1 in the past eight games.
"It's nice to get back on track and play some good, hard hockey," Parenteau said. "There's no reason to believe we can't play like this more often. This was a tough stretch and no one was happy in this locker room."

Schneider got his first shutout since making 38 saves in a 2-0 win at the Arizona Coyotes on Jan. 16, 2016. It was Schneider's first win in his past six games (1-4-1) and 22nd shutout of his NHL career.

"You could tell the emotions, the passion and commitment were there," Schneider said. "I think we're just tired of losing, just tired of not winning. That could manifest itself in a lot of ways and [Thursday] it was a positive."
The Flyers (20-12-4) entered the game ranked fifth in the League with 3.03 goals per game. It was the Devils' first shutout against the Flyers since Nov. 7, 2013, when Martin Brodeur got his last of 12 shutouts against Philadelphia.

Steve Mason allowed two goals on eight shots. He was replaced by Anthony Stolarz to start the second period. Stolarz made 12 saves.

"We knew they were going to come out with a better effort than they've had but at the same time we have to focus on our own game and not what they're doing," Mason said.
The loss was the third in the past 14 games for the Flyers (11-2-1).
"This is our ninth back-to-back and we've been outstanding in every one of them," Flyers coach Dave Hakstol said. "This was the first time it caught up to us just a little bit. It's going to happen."
The Devils outshot (8-6) and outhit (7-3) the Flyers in a heated first period.
Parenteau deflected a shot past Mason on the power play at 7:40. Michael Cammalleri took the initial shot from the right circle that hit Parenteau's left leg past Mason to give the Devils a 1-0 lead.
Wood scored his fourth goal off a rebound in the slot at 13:26 to make it 2-0.

Henrique scored his eighth goal off a wrist shot from the slot 13:49 into the second to give the Devils a 3-0 lead. Palmieri scored a power-play goal off a tip-in with 1:22 remaining to make it 4-0.

Highlight of the game

Stolarz, who grew up in Jackson, New Jersey, was playing in his first NHL game at Prudential Center. He made a blocker save against Travis Zajac 4:31 into the third despite having his mask knocked off by Taylor Hall skating through the crease.

Unsung performance of the game

Cammalleri wasn't credited with an assist but made a key dump-in prior to Henrique's goal when he lifted the puck from his own blue line into the Flyers end to begin the play.

They said it

"We didn't have a whole lot of energy. We just couldn't get engaged. That hasn't happened too often in the first half. This group has been a bunch of warriors. We just didn't have the energy [Thursday]." -- Flyers coach Dave Hakstol
"A shutout is nice but the only reason a shutout is good is because it probably means you won the game so that's what's important, especially with the slide we and I have personally been on. I can't say enough about the effort of my teammates and how hard they worked, the shots they blocked, and turnovers they created. They really bottled up a dangerous offensive team." -- Devils goalie Cory Schneider
