Vrana scores twice in Red Wings victory

Jakub Vrana scored two goals for the Detroit Red Wings in a 6-3 win against the Philadelphia Flyers at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit on Tuesday.

Oskar Sundqvist had a goal and an assist in his debut after being traded from the St. Louis Blues on Monday to the Red Wings (26-30-7), who had lost seven of eight. Tyler Bertuzzi had a goal and two assists, and Alex Nedeljkovic made 30 saves.
"We've had to be honest with ourselves -- we haven't been playing well enough lately," Vrana said. "Today will do a lot for our confidence -- just getting out there and playing a good game."
The Red Wings went 1-3-0 on a Western Conference road trip.
"We had a tough trip and then we had to deal with the deadline, which is going to bring along some angst no matter who you are," Detroit coach Jeff Blashill. "It was a tough practice for our guys yesterday, not knowing who might be gone in a few hours, but they worked hard and came out tonight with good energy."

Carter Hart made 24 saves for the Flyers (20-32-11), whose road skid reached 13 games (0-12-1). Kevin Hayes and Travis Konecny each had two assists.
"It's tough to lose this game tonight, but we're obviously going to keep pushing," Philadelphia coach Mike Yeo said. "We played hard, but we had a lot of turnovers in the neutral zone. That puts the defense under a lot of pressure."
Joe Veleno made it 1-0 for the Red Wings at 5:17 of the first period, circling the net to score as Flyers defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen crashed into Hart.
Vrana put Detroit ahead 2-0 at 9:15, flicking a loose puck under the crossbar for his fourth goal in seven games this season.
"I thought we came out for the first period with good energy, but we kept shooting ourselves in the foot," Flyers forward Joel Farabee said.

PHI@DET: Raymond buries Larkin's feed for his 20th

Lucas Raymond gave the Red Wings a 3-0 lead at 1:07 of the second period with his 20th goal, but Farabee made it 3-1 at 1:32.
Oskar Lindblom pulled the Flyers within 3-2 at 7:56, but Vrana scored his second of the game at 18:51 to make it 4-2.
"I was trying to get into a good spot, but I was behind Dylan (Larkin), so I didn't know if he saw me," Vrana said. "He made a great pass, and I let him know I appreciated it."
James van Riemsdyk scored from the left face-off circle to make it 4-3 at 11:23 of the third period.
"I liked the way the guys kept battling back tonight -- we were just never able to get the tying goal," Yeo said. "That relentlessness is important."

Sundqvist put Detroit up 5-3 with an empty-net goal at 17:09.

Bertuzzi scored into the empty net at 18:49 for the 6-3 final.
