Gavrikov lifts Blue Jackets past Flyers in OT

COLUMBUS --Vladislav Gavrikov scored at 3:14 of overtime, and the Columbus Blue Jackets recovered for a 5-4 win against the Philadelphia Flyers at Nationwide Arena on Tuesday.

Gavrikov won it when he finished a 3-on-1 rush with Yegor Chinakhov and Cole Sillinger with a one-timer from below the right face-off circle. Each of his two goals this season has come in overtime.
"It was 3-on-1 and [I] was ready," Gavrikov said. "I didn't know what exactly [Chinakhov] is going to do, but I had only one option. If I will get the puck, I have to shoot."

Boone Jenner scored twice, and Eric Robinson had a goal and an assist for the Blue Jackets (5-9-1), who are 2-0-1 in their past three games, including defeating the Flyers for the second time in less than a week (5-2 win on Nov. 10).
Elvis Merzlikins allowed two goals on 17 shots before leaving the game in the second period with an undisclosed injury. He was replaced by Joonas Korpisalo, who made 18 saves.
"You get five of six points here in three games, it's a good stretch with the amount of injuries that have piled up," Columbus coach Brad Larsen said. "We lost ourselves a bit in the second period there, especially the last 10-12 minutes, but we got ourselves together."
Kevin Hayes, Noah Cates and Travis Konecny each had a goal and an assist, and Carter Hart made 28 saves for the Flyers (7-6-3), who have lost four straight (0-3-1).
Philadelphia rallied from two goals down twice to get the overtime point.
"We've been battling back pretty much all year," Hayes said. "You don't want to go down two goals. but's nice to know there's no quit in this room. We all believe together that we can get a goal."
Sean Kuraly gave Columbus a 1-0 lead at 12:36 of the first period when his turnaround shot from the right circle deflected in off the stick of Philadelphia defenseman Justin Braun.
"We score four tonight and we still lose," Flyers coach John Tortorella said. "The first period we didn't play well, but we were better in the second."

PHI@CBJ: Jenner scores PPG for 2-0 lead in the 2nd

Jenner made it 2-0 at 5:36 of the second period, redirecting a centering pass by Johnny Gaudreau on a power play.
Hayes cut it to 2-1 at 8:54 with a one-timer in the slot off a pass from behind the net by Konecny.
Cates tied at 2-2 at 12:16, finishing a 2-on-1 with Zack MacEwen. Merzlikins left the game following the goal.
"These comebacks and these points we can use, but if we're playing with the lead, playing confident, playing simple like we do when we're on our good stretches, and be a little more consistent, we'll be really tough to play against," Cates said.

PHI@CBJ: Jenner, Robinson score 13 seconds apart

Jenner put the Blue Jackets back in front 3-2 at 3:22 of the third period on a breakaway.
Robinson scored 13 seconds later to extend the lead to 4-2.
"They had their push a couple times," Jenner said. "We're up twice and then they come back and tie it. It's going to happen, but it's a good way to stay with it and find a way to win."
Nick Seeler got the Flyers back to within 4-3 at 4:58 when his shot from above the left circle deflected in off the stick of Sillinger.
Konecny jammed in a rebound on a power play to tie it 4-4 at 9:14.
"I thought our power play was better tonight," Tortorella said. "Scored a goal to get us a point. As we've talked throughout the year, it's helped us get some points, getting at least one power-play goal a game."
