St. Louis Blues captain Alex Pietrangelo represented his country at the World Cup of Hockey, which was held Sept. 17 through Oct. 1 at Air Canada Centre in Toronto. It was an exciting time for the 26-year-old - not just because he played for Team Canada, but because he did it in front of his family and friends since the tournament is being hosted less than an hour from his hometown. Throughout the World Cup of Hockey, Pietrangelo kept a blog exclusively for stlouisblues.com to share his experience of playing for Team Canada.
Wow - what a great experience that was!
I think a lot of us were relieved we didn't have to go an extra game there against Team Europe. That last game was too close for comfort. When you're down by one late, you just try to get one goal and force overtime - and we got it!
Then Drew Doughty takes that high-sticking penalty with about 1:50 to go, so we immediately reverse course and think about not giving up a goal there in the final minutes. I don't think we were expecting to score shorthanded, if I'm being completely honest, but that was a heck of a way to win.
