January's award recipients are John Parks of the North Allegheny Tigers, Joey Sell of the Moon Tigers, Alexander Evans of the Chartiers Valley Colts and Tyler Wolf of the Carrick Raiders.
Parks is a senior forward for North Allegheny who has tallied nine points in just six games this month. He has notched five goals, including two on the power play, one short-handed marker and a game-winning goal. He could not be more thrilled to have his hard work paying off.
"My greatest hockey moment is making it to the Penguin Cup finals last year, but unfortunately losing in overtime," Parks said. "It was still a cool experience. I am really appreciative of the hard work I have put in over the last six or seven years. It is good to have it be paid off."
Sell is a junior defenseman for the Tigers who had three goals and five assists over the course of just five games in January. Sell is leading his team with 29 points in 18 games played.
He said that making it to the national championship in 2012 was one of his greatest hockey memories, but being honored by the Penguins for his work is just as memorable.
"It's cool," Sell said with a smile. "The Penguins have always been my favorite team. It's cool to be selected by them for something special."
Evans is a senior forward with the Colts. He has led his team through January with 12 points in four games, and his one goal and 11 assists have taken him into the top-10 of the league with 36 points.
Evans remembers back to when he was a peewee and got the opportunity to stay in Quebec City for 10 days in a world tournament. He says that growing up he has heard of people honored for their work, but to be honored by the Penguins is a treat.
"I've been playing for ten years," Evans said. "I have seen people who have received the honor. It is really cool to receive it myself."
Wolf is a senior forward with the Raiders and has continued a tremendous season by notching 14 points in five games. He now sits eighth in league scoring with 26 goals and 14 assists in 18 games played.
Wolf's high school team won their Christmas tournament last month and he is hopeful to keep progressing through the rest of the season, starting with being honored by his favorite team.
"It is really special because they are the best team around and I really like the Penguins," Wolf said. "It has been very nice to see my hard work has got recognized."
