Two Pens Elite Teams Win National Titles

Two DICK'S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Penguins Elite youth hockey teams won USA Hockey national championships on Monday.
The 16U boys defeated Yale, 2-1, at Grand Rapids, MI, while the 14U girls rallied from a 3-1 deficit to beat Little Caesars, 4-3, in overtime at Irvine, CA.

The victories marked the second and third national championships in the history of the DICK'S Sporting Goods Penguins Elite program, following the 18U boys in 2016.
Tyler Kennedy and Alex Servagno scored goals and Aidan Campbell stopped 26 of 27 shots to lead the 16U boys.
The 14U girls were trailing, 3-2, when Laney Potter scored to tie the game with 1:08 left (and the goalie pulled). Jaidan Fahrny then got the winning goal in overtime, while the Pens were shorthanded, re-directing a shot from the point by Isabelle Powell.
Bella Vasseur and Katherine Khramstov scored the other goals for Pittsburgh, and Ava McNaughton made 23 saves.
Two other DICK'S Sporting Goods Penguins Elite teams - the 14U boys and 16U girls - advanced to playoff rounds of national tournaments before being eliminated.
The results further establish DICK'S Sporting Goods Penguins Elite as one of the premier youth hockey programs in the country. All the teams play out of the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry Township.
