Penguins Elite wins first-ever Girls' Youth Cup

Just like the big NHL team in Pittsburgh, 12-and-under squad from Steel City are champs @NHLdotcom

The Pittsburgh Penguins have won the cup in 2016!

That is, the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite 12-and-under squad took home the first-ever NHL Youth Cup Girls Division title this weekend.

The game was decided in exciting fashion, with the Penguins prevailing against Little Caesars of Detroit 3-2 in a shootout. Jaiden Fahrny scored the winner for the Penguins and goalie Ava McNaughton did not allow a score in the shootout session.

Little Caesars of Detroit is coached by the only female player in NHL history, Manon Rheaume, a former goalie with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Youth Cup was played at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex, the Penguins training facility.
